Steel hinged plate conveyor

Robust conveyor solutions for extreme conditions

Reliable steel plate belts for metal processing

MTF Technik offers a wide range of robust and durable hinged belt conveyors that have been specially developed for demanding applications. With their stable construction and temperature-resistant support elements made of steel or stainless steel up to 300°C, they are ideal for applications in metal processing (e.g. stamped parts, die-cast parts made of zinc or aluminium, swaged parts such as screws or rivets) or in the plastics industry for the transport of very hot products.

The hinged plate conveyors also impress with their versatile configuration options and outstanding robustness. Their steel or stainless steel support elements can be studded, slotted, perforated or smooth as required. In addition, the support elements can be changed without dismantling the belt.

Furthermore, the torsion-resistant construction made of aluminium profiles ensures maximum stability, while low-maintenance drives and a wide range of base frames guarantee easy adaptation to different requirements.

MTF Technik offers customised steel plate conveyors tailored to your specific requirements. These are available in both straight and angled designs. The wide selection allows for optimal adaptation to a wide range of applications. The integrated chain guide in conjunction with automatic spring tension ensures low maintenance, while the side boards guarantee optimum sealing between the support structure and the side guide. This gives you the solution that supports your material flow efficiently and durably.

The hinged belt conveyor in detail

Flexible and easy to maintain

The hinged belt conveyors from MTF Technik are based on a design consisting of specially developed aluminium profiles that are connected to form a ladder-like frame, which forms the base structure. Flat steel bars are mounted in the side profiles, on which the roller elements of the hinged belt pull chains run.

The hinged belts are 1.5 mm thick steel or stainless steel plate elements with a pitch of 38.1 mm, which are connected via side pull chains. The hinged plate belts are available in different surface finishes (smooth, knurled, perforated, knurled and perforated, slotted) to ensure optimum function depending on the application.

The hinged plate belts have side plates that run along with them. These are covered on the conveyor belt by side guide plates and thus run protected inside the belt construction. They serve as additional safety measures to prevent small parts from entering the belt body. The side guide plates are factory-fitted in direct contact with the hinged plate belts. This ensures minimal gaps and optimum sealing between the belt and the side guide.

Extremely high-torque gear motors are used as the drive, which are mounted directly on the drive shaft. The drive units are designed so that they can be inserted into the frame completely pre-assembled. Maintenance is correspondingly simple – all elements are easily accessible.

The drive units can be equipped with various control options. Customers decide which interfaces and functions are required. For example, the motors can be configured with motor protection switches, cycle timing devices, frequency inverters or special controls, which can also communicate with existing customer systems if required.

In the deflection area, spring-loaded elements are integrated into the belt body to compensate for polygon effects of the drive sprockets and any longitudinal expansion of the drive chains. The tensioning devices are perfectly protected, fully integrated into the profiles and do not protrude at the sides. This ensures an optimum ratio of external width to usable width.

Depending on the conveyor belt type, the belt load, the customer's requirements in terms of desired adjustment frequency and the belt load, MTF Technik selects the appropriate base frame type. A wide range of different variants ensures perfect functionality and an optimal price/performance ratio.

The MTF Technik hinged belt conveyors are based on a modular system which, through the intelligent combination of standard components, allows a standardised solution to be found for many different applications and tasks. If necessary, special designs can be added to optimally fulfil the task at hand.

We would be happy to provide you with personal advice for your individual requirements.

Questions and answers about Steel plate conveyor

Can hinged belt conveyors also be operated in a cyclical manner?

In principle, hinged belt conveyors can also be designed with a synchronised drive. However, with long and/or wide conveyor belts, the hinged plate belts become heavy and have a corresponding inertia when starting up or braking. For this reason, MTF Technik recommends the use of a soft start for synchronised applications (frequency converters or pulse generators with adjustable ramp).

What is the maximum part temperature for a slat conveyor?

The actual hinge plate belt is designed for a maximum continuous temperature of 300°C. This is the upper limit.

In the standard version, the hinged plate belt is supported in the middle by plastic sliding elements on wider conveyors to prevent sagging and minimise friction. These sliding blocks are suitable for a continuous temperature of approx. 90°C. For many applications where hot parts are continuously conveyed and the belt cools down sufficiently during operation, this may be completely sufficient.

In extreme cases – e.g. when hot parts are deliberately left on the conveyor belt for a long time to cool down – high-temperature-resistant plastics must be used as sliding strips if necessary in order to achieve correspondingly higher continuous operating temperatures.

What materials and surfaces are available for the hinged conveyor belts?

The hinged conveyor belts are made of steel as standard, but can also be supplied in stainless steel. The surface is available in smooth, dimpled, perforated, dimpled and perforated or slotted. This makes the hinged conveyor belts ideal for a wide range of applications.

How fast can a hinged belt conveyor run?

The standard belt speeds for MTF Technik hinged belt conveyors range from 2.4 m/min to 16.3 m/min. Other speeds are available on request.

For which applications are hinged belt conveyors particularly suitable?

Hinge belt conveyors are particularly suitable for transporting hot parts or for use in harsh environments. Typical applications for hinged belt conveyors from MTF Technik are primarily in die casting (zinc or aluminium die casting), but also in the transport of stamped parts or in general metal processing.
