Task: Storage and packaging of injection-molded parts in a cleanroom

Medical devices are manufactured on a high-speed injection molding machine. 48 parts are produced per cycle (5 seconds).

The machine has a laminar flow module above the tool and is located outside a cleanroom.

The products are to be directed via an existing quality control switch onto an encapsulated conveyor belt, which transports the products through a wall into a cleanroom.

The products will initially be stored in the cleanroom. The goal is to temporarily store up to 1,000 products.

In the second step, the components must be packed into bags in quantities of approximately 5,000 pieces each. The aim is to fill the bags with the products only in layers to achieve improved cooling. The intermediate storage step is also intended to contribute to cooling.

An exact count of the parts in the bag is not necessary.

Solution: Encapsulated conveyor belt combination for receiving system with scale

Conveyor belt in encapsulated design with closed back wall and stainless steel lining of the side guide profiles, adapted to the task of the QS switch and with sealing to the cleanroom wall

Conveyor belt combination as an intermediate hopper, consisting of two straight conveyor belts. The lower conveyor belt runs very slowly and meters the components onto the second conveyor belt, which then transfers the components into the foil bags at a higher speed.

The conveyor belts are made of stainless steel in all product-contact areas. Thanks to their design, there are no sharp edges where parts could be damaged.

A stud compartment cover adapted to the stud shape on the steep conveyor belt ensures that no parts can fall down to the ground.

Loading system with stainless steel turntable and stainless steel bag holders with quick-release mechanisms for bag attachment. The bag holders are loosely mounted on the turntable with centering pins.

A pneumatically height-adjustable scale is integrated below the turntable at the filling position. This scale lifts the respective bag holder and tares the weight.

The conveyor belts are also controlled via the control system of the receiving system.

Once the desired (partial) quantity is reached in the container, the receiving system rotates to the next position.
