Task: Automatic buffering of medical devices in containers

Medical devices are produced on a high-speed injection molding machine (128 parts per cycle, cycle time approx. 7 seconds).

The components need to be cooled from approximately 100°C to approximately 80°C. This will take about 30 seconds.

Approach parts and quality control parts should be sorted out.

Six 600x400mm containers are to be buffered, each filled with 90,000 parts +/-1%. Counting will be done via the SGM's output counter.

The filled containers should be removed at an ergonomic height.

Solution: Buffer conveyor system on 3 levels with switch, small conveyor belt and lifting platform

A two-way switch separates the good parts from the rejected parts or QS parts.

The products are transferred to a storage compartment in each cycle. A sensor beneath the conveyor belt then fills the next storage compartment.

The products fall onto a fully enclosed small conveyor belt, which can be moved longitudinally by a pneumatic cylinder. This conveyor belt is necessary to fill the containers on the lowest lift level. The small conveyor belt must be retracted before each lift movement.

After the last cycle for the box in the filling position, the conveyor belt is cleared and serves as an intermediate buffer during the container change.

The movable small conveyor belt also offers the advantage that pile cones in the container can be avoided, as different discharge positions can be accessed.

An electric platform lift with an attached three-level conveyor system provides the necessary buffer capacity. This allows production to operate unmanned for a full shift (8 hours).
