Task: ESD-compliant transport of automotive components

Automotive components with integrated circuit boards are to be transported by conveyor belt between two assembly steps

The essential requirement is that the components are not damaged due to electrostatic charging, i.e. the conveyor belt must be designed in an ESD-compliant manner

Solution: Use of a highly conductive conveyor belt

Conveyor belt type GL-HM 010 with special (highly conductive) belt. The belt has a surface resistance of 185 ohms and is also ATEX Category 2 approved, KEMA 05ATEX2164 U (for comparison: a "normal" PU or PVC belt has a surface resistance of approximately 1 x 10 to the power of 15 ohms; EN-ISO 284 defines a maximum of 3 x 10 to the power of 8 ohms as antistatic).

The conveyor belt frame and the undercarriages are conductively connected to each other and additionally earthed

The conveyor belt has special, electrically conductive rollers
