This implementation demonstrates an exemplary solution for a large-scale, ceiling-mounted system in an ISO Class 8 pharmaceutical cleanroom. The goal was to automate and batch-separate the entire internal logistics between production, assembly, and packaging across approximately 5,000 m² (140 × 35 m) of floor space using a highly flexible conveyor system – while taking into account complex spatial constraints.

The special feature: The machines are distributed throughout the entire hall. The conveying system should therefore be suspended from the ceiling as completely as possible to keep floor space clear and avoid obstructions such as utility columns, air vents, or skylights. The project was implemented in several phases over a period of six years. Installation had to be carried out with high precision within narrow maintenance windows (e.g., on Sundays or during off-peak weeks). The individual conveying segments (max. 4 m long) were brought in via elevators and assembled directly on site. Complete project responsibility – from planning to commissioning – The project was carried out by MTF Technik. An approximately 700m long, intelligent overhead conveyor system with around 150 conveyor belts in various configurations is used: from discharge and hopper conveyors to Z-conveyor belts with reject chutes, reversible sections, pipe systems, and transfer points. A total of around 250 MTF devices were integrated – supplemented by extensive sensor technology, intelligent control systems, touch panels, signal lights, and remote maintenance units. All controls are decentralized, with Siemens S7 or special controllers for each product line and a connection to a production data acquisition system.

Batch-separated, autonomous material logistics across all production, assembly and packaging processes.

Maximum system availability through robust construction

Flexible and hygienic to use thanks to FDA-compliant belts and stainless steel components.

Precise plant control and monitoring via intelligent sensors

Well-designed assembly concepts with segmented components for tight installation times and structural restrictions.

Long-term operational reliability through detailed documentation, maintenance concepts and systematic condition monitoring.
